5 travel tips that will help you save money

travel tips that will help you save money - ByMeryl

I love to travel as often as I can, but traveling can be quite expensive. In today’s post I therefore share 5  travel tips that will help you save money. So you have more money to spend on your next trip.

  • Book your flights during the week

Flight prices are constantly fluctuating. However there is some logic in there that will help you get the best price possible. Flights are generally the cheapest on weekdays and preferably in the middle of the night. Also your location might decrease or increase the price so changing your settings to a different country, might give you a better deal.

  • Look for other airports close to your destination

Some cities and destinations are more expensive to fly to than others. It might be helpful to broaden your horizon, literally, and look for airports that might be close to your destination but not exactly at your destination. For example I once went to Vienna, which is quite expensive to fly to, but flew to Brno because that was much cheaper. Public transportation can then often get you to your exact destination for less.

  • Use websites that compare costs

I like to compare the prices of flights that I am planning to book. My favorite sites are Skyscanner and ITA Matrix. The latter is great if you are looking for multiple flights, however you cannot directly book on the site. Skyscanner is therefore the site that I use to actually book the flights.

  • Choose your accommodation wisely

Accommodations in cities can be quite expensive. If you really want to travel on a budget, I would advise you to also have a look at hostels. Some people shield away from hostels because it often involves sharing a room with strangers but quite a lot of hostels also offer 2 person or bigger rooms that you can rent as a whole. Another good option if you want to travel on a budget is Airbnb, not only are they often less expensive, but when they come with a kitchen you can save even more by cooking your own meals.

  • Use discount codes or rewards programs

Whenever I decide to stay in a hotel, I always book it on booking.com (not sponsored , I wish). Firstly because the site is very easy to navigate but also due to their rewards program. When you book with them regularly you will receive a code that you can give to family and friends. Not only do they get a discount on their first booking, but you will also get a cash reward. This is a great way to help your family and friends save money while gaining some yourself.

So here you go, 5 travel tips that will help you save money. Now all you need to think about is the next destination your going to visit with all the money that you’ve saved.

Dit jaar zijn we gaan vliegen vanaf een luchthaven die dichterbij ons te vinden. En dit beviel heel erg goed. Het was er niet zo druk en we hoefde niet lang te wachten. Ideaal!
